How do i change my Forge server version?

In this guide, we will explain how to set your servers Forge version. Before we start, some things to note:

If you are changing your forge version, be sure to check your mods and world, as you may need to delete, update or re-generate a brand new world and mods.

If you are starting a Forge server, please ensure your server is fresh and has no conflicting files before you change over to Forge.

If you are unsure on these points, or anything in this guide, please create a support ticket and our team will be more than happy to advise and get this done for you!

We will be using FileZilla in this tutorial to upload files, and its handy to have to upload/download files between your server and computer easily. Please see this tutorial on how to connect - https://billing.villagerhost.net/index.php?rp=/knowledgebase/3/How-do-i-access-my-server-using-Filezilla.html

Tutorial

  1. Find your Forge version from http://files.minecraftforge.net/ . You should see all the versions on the left hand side. In this tutorial, we will be choosing 1.12.2, but this tutorial works with all versions. Once selected, download the "Installer" option for the "latest" build as shown below.

2. It will download a jar file. Open this to reveal the installer.

3. Before we proceed, create a folder on your desktop. This can be called anything, but this is where we will be installing the files to. For this tutorial, i have made one on my desktop called Forge as shown below.

4. When the Launcher loads, select 'Install Server' firstly. Then, click the little dots next to the directory section underneath this as shown below.

5. Then, select the folder you created earlier on your desktop, as shown below. Then click Open.

6. Then click Ok to proceed with the installation.

7. Wait for it to download all the relevant files. Once done, you should get a message like below.

6. You should have all the files you need now in the folder we created. All you need to do now is to rename the forge jar file to 'server.jar', and then upload these files to your server!

Rename the Forge jar, not 'minecraft-server' jar. Please see below.

7. Then simply upload all these files to your server via FileZilla, and once done you can restart the server! If you are changing your Forge version, be sure to overwrite the old files (or you can delete the old ones on the server before uploading)
